Ceremonial Cacao - the revered “Food of the Gods.” is a sacred plant, cherished by ancient Meso-American civilisations, believed to be a divine gift from the gods themselves and consumed as a profound plant medicine, ceremonial cacao has long been celebrated for its ability to heal the physical, emotional, and spiritual body by our ancient ancestors.

Many of us feel disconnected from ourselves, our communities, and nature. We seek deeper meaning and more profound connections but often find it challenging to know where to begin.

The ancient wisdom and healing practices that once guided our ancestors have become obscured by modern distractions, leaving us longing for authentic spiritual and emotional nourishment.

Imagine feeling more grounded, centred, and connected to the world around you. Imagine a space where you can explore ancient healing traditions and modern wellness techniques that support your journey of self-discovery.

This is not just a dream; it is a possibility that can be realised through the power of ceremonial cacao. The wisdom of our ancestors can guide us back to a place of balance and harmony, where we can thrive both individually and as a community.

Ceremonial cacao, known as 'Food of the Gods,' was revered by ancient Meso-American cultures like the Olmecs, Aztecs, and Maya as a divine gift to heal the body, mind, and spirit

Why Cacao Is The Divine Food of the Gods

CACAO: The Divine Food …

Ancient Meso-American civilisations like the Olmecs, Aztecs, and Maya believed that cacao was a gift from the gods, a profound plant medicine designed to heal the physical, emotional, and spiritual body.

The cacao tree, taken from a sacred mountain by the feathered-serpent god Quetzalcoatl, was revered as a bridge between heaven and earth. The Theobroma Cacao Tree, meaning “Food of the Gods,” continues to be a sacred symbol for indigenous people in the ancient Maya lands.

Cacao was considered a bridge between heaven and earth, with the plant spirit 'Espiritu Cacao' believed to carry divine knowledge and healing to those who consumed it.

The Maya have consumed this “Food of the Gods” for thousands of years, creating a sacred (slightly bitter) beverage by grinding the cacao beans and mixing them with water.

This ceremonial cacao was often enhanced with spices for additional healing properties, shared during various ceremonies and rituals to promote healing and connection within the community.

The plant spirit “Espiritu Cacao” was believed to transfer knowledge and healing from the gods to those who consumed the sacred beverage. Ceremonial cacao was used in rituals, weddings, baptisms, and even given to warriors before battle to enhance their life force.

Today, this tradition continues, with medicine women using cacao to support physical health and emotional well-being, particularly in postpartum care and other healing practices.

The Maya used ceremonial cacao in various rituals, from weddings to warrior ceremonies, to open hearts, enhance life force, and promote healing.

One thing is certain: the Maya revered cacao for its nourishing, heart-opening, and bliss-inducing properties, a tradition we honour and continue at Herbal Cacao.

Join us in the Herbal Cacao Journal as we celebrate and explore the rich heritage and transformative power of ceremonial cacao. Together, we can cultivate a life filled with love, healing, and spiritual growth.

Stay tuned for more insightful posts, and let’s embark on this journey of healing and discovery together.

Be the love, share the love, and spread the love.
