Our Promise - The 2% Fund
For the land it grows on, the families who tend it, and the ancestral wisdom it carries.
Rooted in reciprocity,
At Herbal Cacao, our journey is deeply intertwined with the ancient wisdom and sacred traditions of the indigenous Maya people, whose reverence for Cacao as a divine plant medicine has been passed down through millennia.
We recognise that our work exists in reciprocity with the wisdom, traditions, and guardianship of Indigenous Maya communities who have tended this sacred relationship with Cacao for millennia.
The Maya elders envisioned a future where Cacao would once again fulfill its sacred role as a heart-opening drink, starting a new era of global connection and heart-centered living.
We honour this sacred lineage, recognising that our ability to bring ceremonial cacao to the world is deeply rooted in the knowledge and practices preserved by these communities.
For us, reciprocity and reconciliation are not just principles, they are the essence of everything we do.
Reciprocity
A Commitment Beyond Fair Trade
We believe in reciprocity as a profound act of mutual exchange, where respect and balance are woven into every aspect of our work.
Our commitment to ethical sourcing goes beyond the standard Fair Trade practices. We believe in doing more, and we’ve taken clear steps to ensure that our practices reflect this. We ensure that the dedicated smallholder Maya family farmers, who are deeply rooted in their heritage, are fairly compensated for their labor and resources, supporting the continuation of this sacred lineage of cacao.
Our pricing structure exceeds the standard market price, ensuring that on average, we pay 125% more than the West African commodity price for the cacao we source. Hereby ensuring that the benefits of this sacred plant flow back to the source, sustaining their livelihoods and empowering their communities.
With sourcing supported by our trusted partners who work directly at the farm-gate, every step of this journey is guided by integrity, reciprocity, and reverence. Even when we are not physically present, our partners serve as guardians of our shared values.
Together, we are creating a conscious new world of heart-centered living, one sip at a time.
Reconciliation
Healing & Honoring Sacred Traditions
Reconciliation is at the heart of our mission at Herbal Cacao. We recognize the historical injustices faced by indigenous communities, whose ancestral wisdom and sacred practices were suppressed for centuries. Today, we stand in solidarity with the Maya people as they reclaim their heritage and share their teachings with the world.
Our work is deeply connected to the environmental stewardship of the lands where cacao is grown. We are committed to sustainable farming practices that honor the Earth, ensuring that the cacao is cultivated without depleting natural resources. This includes supporting sustainable agroforestry and biodiverse cacao farming, all of which contribute to the healing of the planet.
Reconciliation also means creating a deeper connection between our consumers and the cultural origins of cacao. We encourage mindful consumption, where every sip of Herbal Cacao is an opportunity to honour the sacred traditions of the Maya people.
The 2% Fund
given back 2% every year
2% of our revenue flows directly back to the Maya communities who grow our cacao.
Not a slice of profit that can vanish in a lean year, a fixed share of everything that comes in, every year. It funds the practical, the living and the lasting: tools in farmers’ hands, trees in the ground, and knowledge kept alive.
Social Responsibility | 4 ways value flows back.

At Origin - BELIZE
1. Toolbank Initiative
In the Toledo region of southern Belize, farmers kept telling our founder Sharon the same thing: "Miss Sharon, we really need equipment to get cacao production back on track."
Launched in 2025 with Maya Mountain Cacao, a 100% Maya-managed fermentation centre, the Toolbank puts the right tools in farmers' hands.

2. Baby Cacao Tree Project
Wildfires tore through cacao forests across Maya lands. For €4.50, a baby tree is raised in a local nursery and planted by hand, with the family, to restore forest, income and biodiversity.
Every June 11 we match each tree, and every tree comes with a signed certificate.

3. Maya Wisdom Keepers
Reciprocity isn't only economic. With Abuelo Efrén, an 11th-generation Maya wisdom keeper, we help community members train in their own ancestral medicine and spirituality, so this knowledge stays alive, carried by its own people.
