Maya Wisdom to Guide Your Days & Deepen Your Cacao Ritual

Discover how the Living Maya Destiny Cards can deepen your cacao ritual and spiritual journey.

Throughout my journeys across the sacred lands of Belize, Guatemala, and Mexico, I’ve had the honor of walking with elders, sitting in ceremony, and learning from the deep well of wisdom held by the Maya people. Each visit opens my heart even more to the vastness of their ancient knowledge—their relationship with time, the Earth, the cosmos. It’s remarkable, humbling, and it continues to shape the way I walk my path.

Every time I return from these lands, I feel a growing responsibility—and deep passion—to share these teachings in a way that honors their roots. That’s why I’m so grateful to now carry the Living Maya Destiny Card Deck in our store.

This isn’t just another card deck—it’s a study tool that serves as a bridge to ancestral memory, to the heartbeat of the earth, and to a way of living in rhythm with natural time. Created by Maya elders, artists, and poets, it holds the sacred 20-day energies of the Cholq'ij calendar. It’s a way to weave ancestral wisdom into your own practice—one card, one moment, one cup of cacao at a time.

"Let it become part of your cacao ritual—a sacred moment of reconnection and remembrance"

My name is Sharon Fernie, and I am the Founder of Herbal Cacao, providing the world with high-quality Herbal Cacao Blends. I have a deep passion for holistic wellness and ancient traditions, and at Herbal Cacao, it's our mission to support our community on their journey of self and spiritual discovery, spreading awareness about the profound benefits of ceremonial cacao and other medicinal adaptogenic herbs and mushrooms.

Here in the "Herbal Cacao Journal" I explore the fascinating world of not just our active medicinal ingredients, but also dive into the world of rituals, ancient healing practices, and modern wellness techniques combined with experiences out of my own life.

So, whether you’re a seasoned practitioner or just beginning your holistic wellness journey, this blog post in the “Herbal Cacao Journal” is your invitation to deepen your understanding of sacred herb & plants and their profound impact on our mind, body, and spirit.

A Sacred Moment in My Cacao Ritual

Whenever I sit with my cacao—warm, creamy, and alive with the energy of the Earth and the hands that prepared it—I take a moment to slow down, breathe, and connect with the energy of the day. The Living Maya Destiny Cards have become a sacred tool in my practice to deepen my connection.

Each one of these cards carries the ancient wisdom of the Maya Cholq’ij calendar—20 powerful energies that mirror the cycles of nature and the seasons of the soul. I look up what the Maya elders say about today. What awaits me? What energy can I draw from this sacred wisdom to guide my path?

Drawing a card becomes a portal—a quiet invitation to listen and receive. Sometimes the message nudges me to plant a seed, take action, or speak my truth. Other times it’s a soft call to release, rest, or trust the unseen.

When paired with cacao—this sacred heart-opening medicine—my ritual becomes a living prayer. A way of remembering who I am and how I wish to show up in the world today.

Why This Deck is So Special

What moves me most about this project is its origin. During her travels in Guatemala, Mia—one of the initiators of the deck—was working on a permaculture farm with CIELO, a non-profit rooted in Indigenous sovereignty and land-based healing. She felt a deep calling to give something back and provide ongoing support to the communities she encountered.

In that spirit of reciprocity, she envisioned a way to share the profound teachings of the Maya day-count while directly supporting the people who carry this wisdom. What began as a seed of intention grew into a collaborative creation—crafted in full partnership with Maya artists, poets, and spiritual guides.

This card deck came to life through the hearts and hands of these powerful collaborators:

Pablo Sigüenza Ramírez is a Kaqchikel mestizo poet, writer, and professor at both the University of San Carlos de Guatemala (USAC) and the Maya Kaqchikel University. Deeply devoted to the resistance movements of Latin American peoples, Pablo’s voice is steeped in the green spirit of the land that nurtures them. With studies in Agronomy and Anthropology, and a postgraduate degree from UAM-Xochimilco in Mexico, his published works include Relatos verdes en escala de gris, Ana es la luna y otros cuentos cotidianos, and Entre la Milpa. His poetic text in this deck breathes memory and meaning into each energy, echoing the ancestral heartbeat of the Maya.

🔥 Rosario Tuyuc, a Nan Ajq’ij (spiritual timekeeper), holds deep knowledge of the Maya worldview and sacred timekeeping. Born to a Kaqchikel father and K’iche’ mother, she is a woman of profound wisdom forged through lived experience. Rosario was born in the CPR de la Sierra—Communities of Peoples in Resistance—during Guatemala’s armed conflict, and her spiritual path is inseparable from the resilience and teachings of her people. Her presence in this project ensures that the deck is not only ceremonial, but deeply rooted in the living pulse of Maya spirituality.

🎨 Santiago Lucas brought the sacred energies of the Cholq’ij calendar to life through his vibrant illustrations. A gifted Maya artist, his brushstrokes carry the ancient codes of the earth, stars, and spirit in every card.

🖌 José Flores Chamalé, a Guatemalan-born artist now based in New York, channels Indigenous resilience and ancestral memory through his artwork. His creative expression is an act of cultural revival—an offering of beauty, power, and continuity after centuries of colonial erasure.

🌟 Aurora Nohemi Chaj Haz is a K’iche’ architect, musician, and sacred geometry researcher. She explores the relationship between Maya textiles, rhythm, sound, and structure—bridging ancestral science with creative design. Through her tutoring and jewelry design, she also uplifts Indigenous women and preserves cultural knowledge.

This is Maya wisdom, shared by Maya hands and hearts—with love, reverence, and responsibility.

A Study Tool for Understanding the Cosmos

Each deck includes 20 illustrated cards, a guidebook filled with poetry and teaching, and a beautiful keepsake box. It’s ideal for:

  • Daily self-reflection

  • Deepening your cacao ritual

  • Learning more about Maya cosmology

  • Gifting something meaningful and empowering

✨ And most importantly: all proceeds go to Indigenous-led initiatives in Guatemala ❕

Rooted in Reciprocity: Supporting Maya-Led Change

The Living Maya Destiny Card Deck is not just a portal for personal transformation—it is a vehicle for collective regeneration.

All proceeds support CIELO, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that partners with CEPC Tolimán—a grassroots permaculture initiative in rural Guatemala founded by Ramiro, a visionary Maya farmer and community leader. With deep roots in his land and culture, Ramiro created CEPC to improve the quality of life for Indigenous families in his region through sustainable agriculture and ecological education.

Run entirely by Indigenous Maya-Kaqchikel people, CEPC is a living expression of Maya Cosmovision in action—blending ancestral wisdom with permaculture principles to regenerate the land, nourish the people, and restore cultural resilience from within.

Located in the village of Quixayá, CEPC has transformed land once used for monoculture into a thriving food forest and permaculture training site. Their projects include:

🌿  Native crop farms & community gardens

🐟 Aquaculture systems with tilapia and vegetables

🍃 Ecological farming workshops for local families

🌱 A greenhouse (supporting 4,000 seedlings!)

🧑🏽🌾 Education programs blending permaculture with Maya Cosmovision

🌽 A community kitchen and food processing center

Their work provides access to organic food, protects local ecosystems, strengthens Indigenous sovereignty, and inspires self-sufficiency. During the COVID crisis, they offered food aid and nutrition programs to dozens of families and children.

I invite you to listen to the message from Ramiro himself

This is not just sustainability—it’s ancestral resilience, cultural renewal, and deep-rooted reciprocity in action. When you work with this deck, you’re not only receiving Maya wisdom—you’re giving back to its living source.
